Trespassers . . .
Background, News and Updates
Trespassing
From time to time, members have expressed concerns regarding trespassing at MIPCA. There is general awareness that various outdoor apps provide trail information about MIP, and that as Marquette experiences increasing tourist travel; walkers, runners, bikers, boaters and others may feel comfortable coming onto MIP property. While the Association wishes to be a friendly and cooperative neighbor, concerns about liability, fire risk, security and conservation of our shared property persist.
In response to member concerns, in 2025, the Board established the ad-hoc Security Committee. The Committee surveyed member’s thoughts regarding trespassing and any appropriate security measures which might be taken in response to those concerns. The survey was conducted in the fall of 2025. Many thanks to all the members (46 camps / 82 %) who participated in the survey. Click here for the results of that survey.
In addition, the committee designed a Trespassing Incident Report Form to enable MIPCA members to quickly report any trespassing (or suspected trespassing) they encounter. In 2024 and 2025, 25 incidents were reported by members. This Summary of Incident Reports is a compilation of the reports Members submitted.
The issue of trespassing is ongoing. The Board encourages all members who might encounter strangers on MIPCA property, including Partridge Island, and who chose to speak with the unknown person(s):
Please do so in a friendly manner - they may be a member you haven’t met, or a member’s family member or guest.
If you determine or suspect they may not be a MIP member and you feel comfortable respectfully reminding them that MIP is private property, please do so and then use The MIPCA Incident Report Form to provide as much information as possible about the encounter. This information helps the Board (and all of us) develop a clearer picture of any trespassing challenges faced by MIPCA.
If you are concerned about the encounter, please contact President Buchkoe who will share pertinent information with the Sheriff as needed.
